Digit exhibition
This whole exhibition will be presenting will be base on the digital impact of societal problems, the expressive and conceptual, and the meaning conveyed through this artwork. I wanted to explore the idea of how light and dark colors contrast to create different stories, a vibe of confusion in all kinds of feelings. I created an unsettling or confusing feeling within our audience. I placed them in story order from people judging her until, where she has awareness of facing the reality of protecting herself. As I looked at my work more, I started to see stories and ideas developing in my mind, which is what I found that interests me, and what led to our audience to have the space to create their own stories through the art pieces. The audience could be reminded or relate to something that has occurred in their lives and experience. Times they have felt down or alone. Where in the ending audience could find a way to express their feelings by looking at my collaboration of art pieces.
I placed them in orders of the event time. As I wanted to explore the idea of how technology kept us away from people and changes the way how we interpret ourselves I have been through, for example, art piece “Fragmentation” was the beginning of self-realization slowly the connection between fairy lights wrapped around “white lies” self-protection from the society. It goes from simple to complicate. The last representation comes to the last piece “Digit” right in the middle viewing the whole exhibition knowing the bright side of human beings.
I experience communication difficulties during the last summer break. It reminds me of the bad memories that I have experienced in the past. Online bullying could be ruthless. People could be two-faced when they are making friends with you. After getting back to China, I had time lapping difference, and it made my relationship with her harder to maintain with my friend. By looking back at those series of pictures, which was taken back of the time when I was with her in England, made me feel a bit sad unable to connect her directly at any moment. The technical problems made me use electric wire cores to tangle up around the hearts, to convey the hard anxiety feelings of relationship. Negative words were written or being cut out from magazines put on the wire cores emphasize the negativity of societal problem how people lose connections with their once close friends or family members. Furthermore, I wanted to try something new by using plaster strips to create a visual 3D viewing heart to expand a forceful of observable imagery to the viewer. The strong material of plaster strips could display a strong encouragement for us to stay strong even if we lose a friend or loved ones. We should always keep our hearts strong. To break down my ideas, I have drawn down the locations reminded me of London and the moment with her. Using Acrylic painting and a black marker. Using a darker tone seems like it is hidden in my memory box I have to dig and seek for it. That small painting landscapes repainted by the pictures taken by myself and on my developed camera. The study of connections in long-distance and friendships emerges in this piece of “Digit”. It discovers the association including the human mindset and by way of life lessons realization in the lenses of different uses of color, material, and symbolism. The Colossal monochrome color and rhythmic movement created a darker feeling of loneliness separated from the real world. Connections of wires with her hair drowning into the black & white world, whereas her downwards body is frozen, wanting to be loved and be melted. The black and white colors could give an interactive space for the audience to imagine colors in the empty part. By using shadow filling in outlines of repetitive lines is emphasized, and it reflects people’s inner sad emotions. I focus on this topic to show the overall theme of the technology impact on daily human life by showing distressed of negative comments at the same time, pretending not to be disturb.
